The PYP programme model
Our Primary School is for children from Pre-Nursery through grade 5 (ages 3 – 11years).
This is a transdisciplinary programme which focuses on developing the whole child. Students learn through examining units which are delivered by both classroom teachers and subject specialists. In the primary school, we have specialist teachers of art, music, dance, and PE. Hindi is taught as the language of the host country.
ICT lessons teach the skills and take learning further. An EL (English Language Support) is provided to students till they are integrated into the mainstream.
Our Programme for Primary
AGS (Amity Global School) has opted to teach an international curriculum for the Primary School. We deliver a programme which is a structured international curriculum that combines national school systems with the collective knowledge and experience of international schools to provide an excellent educational programme for children. It provides relevant, engaging and meaningful programme for children from diverse cultures and language backgrounds and is transferable within national and international systems.
The focus is on the development of the whole child: academic, social, physical and emotional. This is expressed in the overall aims of our programme, which is to encourage young people to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective. These characteristics are outlined in the IB Learner Profile and are explicitly taught in the IB Diploma curriculum, taught at AGS since 2008.
Through an inquiry based approach to teaching and learning, the curriculum addresses three inter-related questions:
- What do we want to learn?
- How best will we learn?
- How will we know what we have learned?
The learning model is constructivist and based on the belief that students come to any learning situation with prior knowledge which can be built upon.
